Your guide to the perfect weekend on the wildest party resort
Apart from swimming 400m to Black Lizard Island, the biggest challenge in Magaluf is making it from one end of Punta Ballena Strip to the other in one piece. Punta Ballena’s where most of the bars and clubs hang out and it’s here that Magaluf makes good on its reputation for being the biggest, baddest and best party resort in Europe. For the ultimate recovery position you need Magaluf Beach during the day – work off your sins with watersports or just lie in the sun and wait to feel better and you can do it all over again.
And remember, Mallorca is a beautiful island, very historic, gorgeous scenery, top eco-reputation and some very exclusive spots. So if you need a total break from Magaluf madness, dress up nice, lose the attitude, catch a bus and go be civilised for a bit.

Magaluf Beach - miles and miles of pure white sand and party spirit Offering more than four miles (or 7km in new money) of pure white sand, blue sea, palm trees, beach bars and sun loungers you can pay to be posh on for a while. This is where Magaluf’s party people spend the day recovering from their excesses. Watersports are big and everywhere, booze cruises set sail from the bay, you can swim to Black Lizard Island for a bit of peace and perspective or you can just lie in the hot, hot, hot sun and play at being on holiday. One thing that always surprises people about Magaluf Beach is its Blue Flag, proving that good, clean fun is possible in the most unlikely places.
Black Lizard Island - for wannabe explorers The 400m swim from Magaluf Beach to Black Lizard Island (Isla de sa Porrossa) is a holiday favourite. The island’s uninhabited except for said lizards and has great views. But be warned: it looks closer than it is, so if you’re unsure about swimming, take a pedalo instead.
Punta Ballena – one big, long party strip This is the Magaluf you know and love (even if you’ve never been you’ll have seen). Most of the resort’s bars and clubs live here and it’s known locally as Magaluf Strip – sort of like Vegas but without the celebrities, mammoth hotels, Bellagio Fountains and overcharging for everything. You’re not here for the scenery or the quaint or the cute, this is just one big, long party come pub-crawl and not pretending to be anything else. If you aren’t up for it, you’ll soon know.

Best bars in Magaluf:
Coco Bongo, Avinguda de les Palmeres -https://www.facebook.com/cocobongosmagalufRight opposite the legendary Mallorca Rocks Hotel, Coco Bongo is a bit of an icon in its own right. Always busy and known for its sunburned masses thronging the crowded terrace until the sun comes up and beyond.
Bronze Bar, Avenida S’Olivera Add Scots to booze, crank up the chart sounds, let it go and it looks something like Bronze Bar. Magaluf’s Scottish bar has only one thing on its mind and it’s the relentless pursuit of the next party moment, all night, every night.
Baywatch, BCM Square If Baywatch came in off the beach, stopped running around saving lives and focused on body shots, drinking towers and the bikinis that made it famous in the first place, it would look something like Baywatch Bar on BCM Square. Cute lifeguards and guardesses in charge of booze and party.
Mambo, Punta Ballena -https://www.facebook.com/mambos.magaluf/How drunk do you have to be to get on the back of a mechanical bull? Don’t ask the crowds at Mambo they don’t know, they just do it. Rave soundtrack, rodeo style antics and the best holiday pics in Magaluf.
Coyote Ugly, BCM Square -https://www.facebook.com/coyotekaraokemagaluf/The best bits of a bad movie make this one of BCM Square’s biggest draws. Expect table-top dancers, shot girls, water spraying and a full-on bar crew making it all happen. And, unlike the movie, this Coyote Ugly is a great girls’ night too.
Linekers Bar, Avenida Magaluf -https://www.facebook.com/linekersmagaluf/With 16 plasma screens showing live sport, outside movies screens, constantly topped up glasses and just next to Magaluf Beach, Linekers can’t stop and won’t stop. Free drink and shots are crowd pleasers in this party bar and it’s famous for ‘free drink all night’ hen and stag parties.
Best clubs in Magaluf:
BCM Planet Dance, BCM Square -www.bcmplanetdance.com/The Strip’s biggest club and possibly the biggest in the Balearics, BCM has 15 bars, a dance ‘arena’ with 3D laser shows and it hosts all the resort’s legendary events, from foam and water parties to washing machine parties.
Boomerang, Punto Balena -www.magallufclubpass.com/Bringing the best DJs and live gigs to Magaluf summer after summer for the past 10 years, Boomerang is the stuff of legend on The Strip. Sounds are mixed and always thumping, energy is wild and Boomerang theme parties are famously insane.
The Office, Punto Balena -https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Office-Club-Magaluf/186808811382126Free entry is a massive incentive but even without that sweetener, resident DJs, epic electro and house sounds and the up-for-anything atmosphere makes The Office one of the biggest clubs on The Strip.
Food: eat like a local:
Food has one purpose in Magaluf – soaking up the booze. But what you lose in haute cuisine you can make up for in carb overload and monster portions. And if you’re idea of ‘authentic’ is KFC, McDonalds and Subway, you’ve scored.
For more adventurous options, Pirate’s Beach Bar & Grill (https://www.facebook.com/piratesbeachbar/) on Magaluf Beach enjoys the best location and is famous for its beach barbecues, fantastic burgers and great steaks. Open ‘til 2am every night so a brilliant stop for refuelling on a relentless party night.
Chilled out atmosphere and sizzling specialities are the beach bar staples at Foxy’s Beach Bar & Deli (https://www.facebook.com/foxys.magaluf) on Magaluf Beach. Stays open late and pulls in a relaxed crowd looking to just hang out, have something to eat and enjoy the beachy atmosphere.
Boat Yard (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Boatyard/311681720961) on Magaluf Promenade serves Sunday roasts even in the height of summer and the locals love it. Lots of other Brit favourites on the menu, relaxed and friendly atmosphere and home-cooking doesn’t let up until 4am most mornings.
Back on Magaluf Beach, Ness Beach Club (https://www.oceansbeachclub.com/) offers an amazing, open terrace overlooking the sea, the standout feature of this great beach bar. Serves snacks and meals all day and keeps everything light, easy and really reasonable.
Famous for their fantastic breakfasts and great prices, there are three Tom Brown’s (https://tombrownsmagaluf.com/) in Magaluf and they’re always busy. Just turn up and even if you have to wait a bit the Spanish omelette and fresh rolls are definitely worth it.
When to visit:
The Balearic Islands are famous for their all-year-round sunshine and Mallorca is no exception. Magaluf temperatures are 30°C on average from May to September. Spring’s a bit cooler and winter isn’t scorching but you definitely don’t need to wrap up warm. For clubs, pubs, bars and mayhem the summer holidays are best.
Best view of Magaluf:
Swim or hire a pedalo and visit Black Lizard Island. It’s one of the few places where you can look back at Magaluf and just see the white, sandy bays and palm tree prettiness without the party to distract you.
Getting about:
The good thing about being a famous party is keeping it all within walking distance and Magaluf does. There are taxis about if you need them but they’re quite expensive. And local bus services run to most attractions and to other parts of Mallorca.
Staying safe:
Magaluf is well-policed and most situations are handled swiftly before they get out of hand. Stick together with people you know, make sure someone knows where you’re going if you’re leaving a bar or club and keep an eye on your valuables in busy places.
