Visit one of the oldest pubs in England, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, built into the cliff where Nottingham’s historic castle sits. It’s famous for several reasons including its network of underground caverns that used to be a brewery. There are several bars, cosy nooks and a great courtyard and garden. It’s filled with relics of England’s colourful and bloody history including a cursed model ship said to have killed anyone who cleaned it.

With more sports facilities per head than anywhere else in Europe and home of the famous Ashes Test Match ground, Trent Bridge, Nottingham is definitely proud of its sports heritage. Nottingham Forest FC is one of the oldest football clubs, and manager Brian Clough is a beloved legend in the city.
